CNHC’s position on registration for students who have successfully completed Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy, Massage Therapy or Reflexology Techniques (4 unit course) in the 2010/11 academic year
Students who successfully completed a Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy, Massage Therapy or Reflexology Techniques (4 unit course) in the 2010/11 academic year will be eligible to be admitted to the CNHC register, having met the National Occupational Standards for their discipline. There will not be a requirement by CNHC for these registrants to undertake any additional training over and above its annual CPD requirements.
Registration on this basis will only be available for this group until December 2011. This means that all applications by these practitioners to register must be received by the verifying professional associations by 31st December 2011.
From the 2011/12 academic year onwards, students starting a Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy, Massage Therapy or Reflexology must successfully complete a 7 unit course that covers the relevant core curriculum in order to be admitted to the CNHC register.

CNHC News                                                                February 2012

·  Agreed advertising wording for CNHC registered disciplines

CNHC has worked with the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) Copy Advice Team, in consultation with CNHC’s Profession Specific Boards (PSBs), to produce wording to describe each of the disciplines CNHC registers.

The purpose of this is to offer wording that practitioners may use to describe their practice in a way that will reduce to a very great extent the risk of a complaint to the ASA being upheld. CNHC will inform registered practitioners of any amendments to the wording which may result from any future ASA adjudications.

CNHC is awaiting confirmation of final wording on the descriptors for Naturopathy, Nutritional Therapy and Sports & Remedial Therapy and will update registrants as soon as the wording is agreed for these disciplines. All other CNHC registered practitioners may find the wording for their discipline available to download by logging into My CNHC. The descriptors are also available on the CNHC website under the heading Complementary therapy descriptors?

For more information see the CNHC Advertising Guidance which is available as a Guidance Sheet on the CNHC website under the Policy and Publications heading.

CNHC will continue to work collaboratively with the ASA and CAP, in consultation with the PSBs, to address the issue of practitioner advertising and will update on progress in due course.

· Terms of use of CNHC quality mark revised

The terms of use of the CNHC quality mark have been revised again this month to clarify that the quality mark may only be used by individual CNHC registered practitioners and not by organisations or training providers. This has always been the policy but has not been clearly understood in all cases. Details of the new terms can be found on the CNHC’s website here: How can I use the CNHC quality mark?

Version 1.1 21 October 2009

Celebrate your CNHC anniversary

The CNHC register opened to Sports and Remedial Therapy in February 2010 which means that many people will be coming up for or have passed their

renewal date. The CNHC is urging people to keep their registration up to date. If you’re CNHC registered you’re in very good company. You are one of several thousand practitioners who recognise the importance of being registered with the Government-supported UK regulator for complementary healthcare.

In the last 12 months alone, more than 40,000 searches have been made on the CNHC register. That’s 40,000 people looking for a CNHC registered practitioner.

“As a sports and remedial therapist of many years, I strongly believe that joining and participating with the CNHC can only strengthen our profession,” said Marcus Croman, a sports and remedial therapist who runs his own practice in Liverpool. “It gives us extra credibility as practitioners. Being part of the CNHC will reduce the risk to the public from poorly trained and unprofessional therapists and reinforce our own status as professional therapists.”

In the last year the CNHC has gone from strength to strength. The Department of Health has asked GPs to recommend that patients seeking complementary healthcare use CNHC registered practitioners. Health Minister Anne Milton said: “I am very supportive of voluntary regulation and the work that CNHC has been doing since its inception in 2008. CNHC has achieved a great deal in three years and I am especially interested to learn of the increasing numbers of registrants you have attracted over the past few months.”

The CNHC now has a presence on Yell.com, the online Yellow Pages directory. This allows us to tell the public about the importance of choosing CNHC registered practitioners. The high number of annual searches for complementary healthcare on Yell.com will direct more people to the CNHC register where they can find a CNHC-registered practitioner in their area. It will also be a real benefit to CNHC-registered practitioners listed on the Yell.com directory website. If you are already CNHC registered, make sure you keep your registration up to date by checking your register entry for the renewal date and looking out for the reminder emails from CNHC.
